A tour of western Sicily is something that remains in your heart. The west is characterized by the heterogeneity of cultural layers that have occurred here. You can fly to Trapani or Palermo and from there, start the tour. Of all places, it should be noted San Vito lo Capo with its Caribbean Sea features lime whitewashed houses and its traditional Cous Cous Fest Settembrina: Italic outpost of Tunisian culture. San Vito lo Capo teaches the traditional North African dish in key island where the tagine terracotta pot is converted into real terracotta. San Vito lo Capo is also one of two extremes, with Scopello, Zingaro Nature Reserve, a sort of path that winds through coastal headlands, coves and inlets and that will give you unforgettable views.

The Tonnara of Scopello overlooks one of the most beautiful bays of Sicily which is built around a beam of rare beauty. In the summer evenings it is enlivened by local craft markets and tables of outdoor cafés and restaurants. From San Vito lo Capo you can also reach the magnificent Saline di Trapani with its characteristic windmills, where I recommend you taste the typical sea bass Sale and have a drink in the evening or you can decide to go to Erice, famous for the weaving of “rags” and its beautiful old town.

From Trapani you can also take a ferry in the direction of the beautiful and unique Egadi islands or down to Marsala which deserves a visit not only for historical references and wine, but also for the scenic old town. As you walk the coast in this direction,do not forget to make the trip to the island of San Pantaleo, which contains the famous Efebo.

The tour of western Sicily could not be complete without a visit to the two archeological sites of great interest for the exceptional state of preservation of the buildings. I am referring to the temples of Segesta and Selinunte. If Segesta is characterized by its hilltop setting, Selinunte, the happy oasis in the squalor of the surrounding areas, is one of the largest archaeological parks preserved today. So extensive that if you wish you can reach the temple by car. The stretch of coastal road running from Mazara del Vallo winding its way into Selinunte is spectacular for the scenario. But if you are going to Selinunte and want to enjoy the scenery forgetting the urban havoc just look to the right towards the sea.
