Seven Family-Friendly Activities that won’t break the Bank in Orlando

Posted by on July 18, 2018

Orlando is one of the world’s great destinations for a holiday all the family will enjoy. Magical theme parks, a sunny climate and wonderful accommodation all combine to create the most memorable of vacations. If you’re planning your travel to CLC World’s fabulous resorts in Orlando you’ll no doubt be aware that tickets to attractions such as Walt Disney World Resort® and Universal Orlando Resort® don’t come cheap. So, if you’re looking for a  mix of big-name thrills and more wallet-friendly alternatives on your Orlando escape, here are our suggestions for seven activities that won’t break the bank – one for every day of the week!

Kids’ Club at CLC World Orlando

CLC World’s Orlando resorts, Regal Oaks and Encantada, are among the finest in Florida with a superb location close to all the theme parks. What’s more, for the best in affordable, family-friendly fun you don’t even have to leave the resorts! At the Kids’ Club, energetic Team Marina staff will ensure your children have a smile on their faces for the whole of their stay with an array of age-appropriate games, crafts and entertainment while you relax by the pool.

Disney’s BoardWalk

Feel like you’ve travelled back in time to Coney Island or Atlantic City at the turn of the 20th Century as you stroll along this waterfront boardwalk in Walt Disney World Resort®. Admission is free and along with shops and restaurants, you can soak up the vibrant atmosphere as you’re entertained by a variety of street performers including jugglers and fire eaters.

Universal CityWalk

Across at Universal Orlando Resort®, this sprawling entertainment complex is open every day of the year. Like Disney’s BoardWalk, this precinct is free to enter and boasts an array of shops, nightclubs and restaurants. It also has a fantastic water fountain, or ‘splash pad’ as they are known locally, to cool off in after a busy day in the Universal Orlando sun.

St. Cloud Lakefront Park

East of Kissimmee and CLC World Orlando, St. Cloud Lakefront Park is a firm favourite of local families looking for outdoor fun. A fishing pier, volleyball court, splash pad, kids’ playground and even a sandy beach area are just some of the amenities guaranteed to work up an appetite for a yummy lunch in one of the dedicated picnic pavilions.

Wekiva Island

You’ll have to cross downtown Orlando to reach this verdant oasis from CLC’s Orlando resorts but it’s more than worth the effort. Set on the Wekiva River, pack your swimmers and plan to spend a day relaxing by the water’s edge. While entry to this park is free on weekdays and one dollar on weekends and holidays, budget for canoe or kayak hire and a refreshing drink at The Tooting Otter, the island’s indoor and outdoor bar.

Orlando Farmer’s Market

More than simply a collection of vendors selling local produce, at the Orlando Farmers Market you’ll find stalls selling food and drink, arts and crafts, and even treats for your four-legged friends. Held every Sunday at Lake Eola Park, this Orlando institution has been going since 1987 and is open from 10am to 4pm, with live music from noon providing a soundtrack to relaxed afternoons.

Open-air Cinemas

Thanks to Florida’s perfect climate, there’s plenty of opportunity to watch a movie under the stars in Orlando in summer. Many local parks and gardens become pop-up cinemas during the warmer months with movies starting around 7pm. Our favourites include Lake Eola Park’s free Friday night Movieola series and Kissimmee Old Town’s free Family Movie Night every Sunday.

With such a choice of budget-friendly options, who said your holiday to Orlando had to break the bank? What’s more, you could qualify for a CLC World free holiday accommodation package  and discover Orlando from two stunning CLC resorts.
