There is still time to take advantage of the southern summer and enjoy a trip to Brazil! But if you think that a holiday in the South American country is only marked by sea, palm trees and carnival you are out of the way. In fact, the Brazilian experience the most beautiful winter I have lived in the Park of Chapada Diamantina in the state of Bahia miles and miles from the sea, immersed in a wilderness where canyons, mountains and waterfalls are the masters.

We stayed in Lencois (reachable by bus from Salvador da Bahia), the ideal starting point for exploring the park. A nice resort with colonial buildings and a vibrant nightlife, authentic flavor and pristine, but with all the amenities (internet point, bar, hostels) of the resorts. For the night we chose the pousada “Dos Duendes” (which in Brazil means goblins). Double or triple rooms with private or shared bathroom, rich breakfast with lots of fresh fruit and a mini library with travel guides left by customers. The real strength hostal, however, is to be the best adventure travel agency of the Park “H20 World Adventure” which offers tours for all tastes, half day, full day or even 3 or 4 days.

We opted for a day in the jeep to explore the Waterfall Well of Hell, the Morro Pai Inacio (where you can see the peaks of Tres Ermanos) of Pratinha (a waterfall surrounded by a vast green meadow with free horses and myriads of butterflies), the Blue Grotto and the Cave to finish da Lapa Doce to 800 meters deep where we met a nice tarantula.

But the highlight was the guided tour of 3 days in the Vale do Paty. Backpackers and miles and miles of walking (I would only recommend it to those who practice trekking or at least have a lot of perseverance because there is no going back). Experience out of time (there is no telephone line, forget television, shops and any other facilities) and the limits of space (walk for endless expanses, fording streams and descending cliffs) that will not leave you indifferent.

The accommodation during the tour is at a Ruina where you sleep in dormitories obtained in mud houses, eat together in a makeshift canteen and play the guitar under the moonlight. With regard to prices I have to say that they are not very low. We are talking about 90 reais for the diary room for two people in the hostel with breakfast included; 125 reais per person for the full day excursion, 400 reais per person for the trip of 3 days in the Vale do Paty including accommodation, meals , transportation and guide.
