The Golden City

There is nothing more exotic in Western Spain than Seville. The elegant capital of Andalusia gathers all the stereotypes of Spain including bulls, tapas, wine, beer, happy people who love the holidays and more. However in Seville these inventions are not just made to attract tourists but are the very soul of the people who love to live like that. It’s obvious that these are not the only reasons why it is a good idea to visit the Andalusian capital. Among the narrow streets and neighborhoods lie silent aristocrats’ courtyards. Seville hides a monumental heritage of great value made of majestic buildings, imposing churches and Moorish palaces.

The life of Seville takes place around the Guadalquivir, a placid river that divides the city in two and that has always marked the life of Seville. Through the Guadalquivir, Seville became the meeting point for businesses flourishing during the periods of the Discovery of America. Today it is the only river port in Spain.

You cannot introduce a city like Seville without reference to the long presence of Muslims in the city that have left indelible traces of their culture even if immediately after the Catholic Reconquest everything possible has been done to erase the symbols of the presence of infidel. These signs are still obvious in Seville. Besides that there is also the Giralda, the tower symbol of the city that was once the minaret of a mosque and the Cathedral built on what was once the Great Mosque of the city.

When to go to Seville?

The best times to visit Seville are spring and autumn when the heat subsides and the tourist crowds disappear. Because the scorching heat that grips Seville especially in July and August is not just a cliché. In recent months the temperature can easily rise up to 54 degrees. But this does not stop the urge to go out and live Seville. If it’s winter you may enjoy being closed in the taverns of the barrio Santa Cruz. In the summer they move toward the river looking for fresh air and staying up late. Because beyond the tourists, Seville is a city that lives every day of the year with the desire to be together, the spirit of partying is always present.
