Not wishing to worry, anyone, but in case it had escaped your notice, Christmas is just around the corner. So it would seem smart to turn your mind to the impending yuletide festivities and start making some firm plans.
Christmas is traditionally when many people spend time with friends and family while relaxing at home. But wouldn’t it be nice to do something different to celebrate the holiday than doing what you always do? Why not take a break from tradition by getting away from all the cooking, television and the inevitable family arguments? The perfect setting for a Christmas break is the Lake District, with its rolling countryside, scenic panoramas and idyllic sceneries. You can relax in luxurious surroundings, have your meals cooked for you and enjoy a break in one of the most beautiful areas in Great Britain. The alternative of course is being stressed out with the arrangements, de-frosting the turkey, arguing about who’s doing the washing up and having your home turned upside down with all the ensuing chaos.
The popularity of Christmas holidays in the UK means hotels are catching up, offering bespoke holiday packages. Many hotels in the Lake District now cater for the tinsel and turkey market. And there are an abundance of hikes, walks and strolls to work off that extra helping of Christmas pudding instead of festering on the sofa watching the Queen’s speech or Mary Poppins. Scafell Pike might be one climb to save for Boxing Day, but there are numerous beautiful scenes and settings to walk and see in the Cumbrian national park. And the prices of such breaks are not as high as you might imagine. In fact, they’re surprisingly affordable when you consider what you might have spent to cater for Christmas at home. Some of the best hotels in Lake District offer great deals for a Christmas break, with the most magnificent appeal of Wastwater and Windermere in the National Park. You may not find the kind of inspiration that Wordsworth did on your festive break, but you’re certain to have a Christmas to remember forever.
