One of the most famous Carnivals in Spain is at Sitges, a small town on the Catalan coast about 40 minutes from Barcelona. The Carnival of Sitges enlivens the city from February 7 to 13 with a series of events including colorful parades, music and fireworks, the election of the King and Queen of Carnival parades of children and closes with Wednesday Ash, with the burial of the Carnival. Sitgetans take to the streets to participate in or watch these intense days of Carnival where imagination and revelry monopolize all responsible citizens’ attention. The town Becomes a Stage characterized essentially by debauchery and joy, but always adhering to our way of life and of doing things in accordance with our parameters and our idiosyncrasy as polite, civic minded citizens.

Among the shows the most important are the Rua de la Disbauxa where the parade floats which takes place on Sunday afternoon and the Rua de l’Extermini in which costumed groups parade and drag queens.
