How many times have I heard people complain about Crete. Or: Yes, we enjoyed the hotel. It had good facilities, all inclusive but overall nothing special. When I hear these “reviews” of Crete I wonder if we were in the same place. My question, usually arises: Did you turn far and wide? More often than not the answer I hear is: no, we were just on the north coast, Agios Nikolaos Town and its surroundings. How is it possible to enjoy all luxury travel spots of the island when you have only been in one place?

Precisely. To clarify, for various reasons (usually practical) you decide to stop in one place. But please then do not take the liberty of speaking about Crete since you do not know. The most important part: the car. Without this medium (or substitutes), in my humble opinion, it does not make sense to set foot on the island of Crete: a means of transport that is faster than the feet is essential here. It is essential to turn three hundred and sixty degrees to be able to really get to know. If you can, if you are traveling light, it is strongly recommended not to book anything fixed but rely on landlords.

Crete is big but not enough to not be able to view the entirety, or almost, within a fortnight. It is not uniformly good. It is truly terrifying at times, disfigured by so called urbanization. But in the long run it is a disarming beauty with its diverse landscapes that can surprise corner after corner. Of course, it is not easy to turn an island: the roads are few, poorly connected to each other and often not properly maintained. It may happen that the asphalt is interrupted abruptly and so you are suddenly on the dirt road in the highway. Or it can happen to stumble on narrow and winding mountain roads where maybe not everyone has wanted to drive. But after overcoming obstacles both natural and human, the views that open up before your eyes sometimes refer to landscapes similar to those of the Caribbean which reset every previous effort. In particular, focusing for now on just a few places of the sea far from the main population centers: the beach of Vai, the village of Kato Zakros, the beach of Preveli and Frangkokastello, Loutro, the beach of Elafonissi, Falasarna and surroundings.

With its beautiful, historic, archaeological and natural spots scattered, Crete is not immediate and is not a tourism hit and run but is revealed to you little by little if and only if you had the patience to explore it. Who shows love? Tune with his mood. Crete is known to be very generous giving a Mediterranean beauty elite and the tropics in low cost.
