Have you considered signing up to the Avios reward scheme in the past but haven’t gotten round to it yet? With life running at 100mph all the time, it’s understandable that doing something like this may have been a little waylaid, especially in the run up to Christmas and the busy New Year when every day seems to be busier than the one before. However, the sooner you do sign up to the scheme, the sooner you can start collecting points, and what do points make? Prizes! Well, not quite, but they do make for some wonderful rewards and treats that you may ordinarily not be able to enjoy.

The Avios Reward Scheme, and its predecessor – Airmiles – both work along the same lines. You simply collect points and, once you have enough, you can redeem them against all manner of treats, including flights, hotels, holidays, travel, days out and theme park experiences. Collecting them is easier than it seems too; in fact, you can collect them during your day-to-day life on simple things like your supermarket shop and your trip to the petrol station when the fuel gauge is looking a little low – it’s not just a reward scheme for international jet-setters!

If you don’t already shop for your groceries and goods at Tesco, reconsider. By swiping your Clubcard at the checkout you can collect loyalty points which can be transferred into Avios. You receive 600 Avios for every £2.50 in Clubcard vouchers, so you can imagine how soon those points can add up – especially when you shop regularly at their supermarkets. You can choose to either automatically exchange your Clubcard points for Avios or, if you prefer, you can opt to exchange them yourself every time you receive your Clubcard statement.

Similarly, if you drive a car and top up the tank with petrol regularly, you may benefit from joining the Shell Drivers’ Club next time you’re there. By swiping the loyalty card every time you use the petrol pump, you can collect up to 20 Avios for every 20 litres that you fill up with. Plus, when you register your Shell Drivers’ Club with Avios, you automatically receive 50 Avios as a welcome bonus. A great perk for something you need to buy as part of your everyday spending.

You can also collect Avios points by using particular credit cards, such as the dedicated Lloyds Bank Avios Rewards Credit Card Account ones. For an annual fee of £24 you can collect 1.25 Avios for every £1 that you spend on the card. Plus, it can be used abroad without being charged foreign transaction fees – perfect for when you need some spending money after redeeming your Avios against a flight to Europe or beyond!

Bear in mind, if you’re a lover of shopping online, that over 250 retailers work alongside Avios to ensure you can receive points as you shop. Head over to the Avios eStore for more information on which retailers are part of the scheme; popular high street and online shops such as Debenhams, Argos, M&S and Play.com are all involved, and you can earn up to 12 points for every £1 you spend via the eStore for a quick way to boost that points total.

Signing up to become an Avios member is free, and easy. You’ll be jetting off abroad or enjoying a day experience in no time!
