Russia is known for its rich culture, great cities and lovely scenery. And when most people think of taking a vacation to Russia, they mostly think of the very colorful Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow.
While its true that most would want to start off their holiday in the capital city, there are some other destinations in Russia that are also well worth your time.
To guide you on these attractions, take a look at this list:
Located in the White Sea to the north of Russia, this is where you can escape the crowds and relax. Enjoy the warmth of the sun, the feel of the sand and the seductive allure of the water.
The islands are also home to the Solovetsky Monastery, which was built during the 15th century and is part of the World Heritage List of UNESCO. As you can see, the islands are not just a place for relaxation, but they attract architecture lovers as well.
The Botanical Gardens
There are five of these in Moscow alone, and a visit to one should be in your itinerary. The largest and most popular of these gardens is The Russian Academy of Sciences’ Main Botanical Gardens. It’s a haven for horticultural lovers as it contains a rose garden with more than 2,000 species, an arboretum and a lovely Japanese garden.
New Arbat Street
When you want to dine, relax or have fun, heading to this street in Moscow is your solution. Whereas the Old Arbat Street gave you access to the most stunning structures in the city, the new one is a completely different atmosphere with cafes, restaurants and clubs.
History lovers will love the sights to see here. One of these is the Mamayev Kurgan which is where the Battle of Stalingrad took place. For great views of Volgograd, getting up to the memorial on top of the hill is a must. The Panorama Museum which contains displays of local artifacts is well worth a visit too.
